Mourvedre/Monastrell wines
Mourvèdre, known as Monastrell in Spain and Mataro in Australia, is a late-ripening red grape that needs plenty of heat. It makes powerful reds in Spain's Jumilla and Alicante, is the star of Bandol in Provence and the M in Rhône-style GSM blends. Expect blackberry, earthy, gamey and herbal notes with firm tannins; serve at 16–18°C with roast meats, lamb or barbecued ribs.
