Carignan/Cariñena wines
Carignan, known in Spain as Cariñena or Mazuelo and in Sardinia as Carignano, takes its Spanish name from the town of Cariñena in Aragón. Old, low-yielding vines give concentrated reds with dark fruit, spice and lively acidity, prized in Priorat, Languedoc-Roussillon and Rioja blends. Its rustic, spicy character goes well with grilled meats, sausages and slow-cooked stews.
