About this wine
Wine Style:
A dry red wine. The wine is Kosher certified, but notably non-Mevushal, which helps preserve its natural character and original quality.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red, with notes of ripe red fruits and hints of vanilla from oak aging. Well-balanced with smooth tannins and a touch of pepper.
Sommelier's advice:
Pairs well with grilled meats like lamb or beef; pasta dishes with tomato-based sauces and cheeses such as Manchego or aged Gouda.
Winemaking process:
From the Vizar estate at Villabáñez on the Duero, near Valladolid, where vines grow on river gravel and sand over marl-limestone. As a Roble, the wine spends a short time in oak before bottling, and it is kosher but not pasteurised. The estate's vineyards, known as Dehesa Peñalba, have since gained their own Vino de Pago status.
Vinoteka's note
Vizar's estate, Dehesa Peñalba near Villabáñez, has vines documented since the fourteenth century and in 2022 became the first single-estate Vino de Pago in the Duero valley outside the Ribera appellation; the 80 hectares are farmed organically. Roble is a kosher blend led by Tempranillo with Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, briefly rested in oak. Ripe black cherry, plum and blackberry with cedar and vanilla, medium to full body, soft tannins and a warm, clean finish. Kosher, not mevushal; serve at 16–18 °C with roast chicken, brisket or aged Manchego.
