About this wine
Wine Style:
Featuring dominant aromas of ripe red fruits (cranberry, raspberry) and subtle hints of vanilla from oak aging, this wine boasts a balanced acidity, soft tannins, and impressive layers of flavor. Dry, approachable Pinot Noir style, suitable for everyday enjoyment. It shows a light to medium body with fresh acidity and soft tannins. The style is elegant, fruit-forward, and easy to drink, with good balance and freshness.
Tasting Notes:
The wine offers aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and light strawberry notes. On the palate, it is fresh and smooth, with soft tannins supporting the bright red fruit flavors. Feeling it at the end with clean, light, and pleasantly refreshing.
Sommelier's advice:
Grilled meats, roasted chicken, and light pork dishes. It also works nicely with pasta, pizza, and casual overseas dishes. Its light and fresh style makes it also suitable for easy meals and everyday dining.
Vineyards:
Yields are low with an average of 45 hl/ha. Grapes come from estate vineyards, from plots of young vines (20+ years old) in the Grosse Lage and Erste Lage vineyards, and from very old vines at the foot of the slopes.
Maturation:
13 months in used, small wooden barrels.
Winemaking process:
vinified in open-top fermenters with a gentle cool-down after harvest to 10-13°C and a spontaneous ferment starting a few days later. At the early stages of the ferment there are just gentle pumpovers that are replaced by punchdowns in the latter stages of the ferment. After 17-21 days on skins the wines are pressed in a basket press and put into 228l barrels. While this goes for all the Fürst Pinot Noirs, this is the only wine that has no new wood at all and just stays in barrel for one year before being bottled unfiltered.
Interesting notes:
a blend of two thirds German Pinot-genetics and one third French Pinot genetics.
Vinoteka's note
The Fürst family has grown wine in Franken since 1638; this is their entry Pinot Noir, from young parcels of the top sites and very old vines at the foot of the slope, aged 13 months in used small casks. Clear ruby; red berries, cherry, mushroom and forest floor with gentle spice; elegant, harmonious and fresh. Drink now or over the next few years with light meats, beef or small game.
