Winemaking process:
The grapes come from a single unirrigated bush-vine vineyard in Stellenbosch, planted in 1996. They are hand-picked, fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts and raised in large French oak foudres, with nothing added but a little sulphur. Pinotage was born in Stellenbosch in 1925 as a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault.
Vinoteka's note
Pinotage from a single unirrigated bush-vine vineyard in Stellenbosch planted in 1996, fermented with wild yeasts and raised in large French-oak foudres, with nothing added but a little sulphur. Fresh, plummy aromas with savoury, smoky notes; ripe and rich, with vibrant black fruit, ripe tannins and a spicy finish. Made for pork belly and barbecued meats; best within three years.
“Blackberry, mulberry and peppercorn aromas here, with a touch of rose petal.”James Suckling · 89 / 100 · 2023
