Wine De Martino, Limavida Old Vine Malbec, 2013
With old vines, you can expect only the very best quality and intensity; and this wine has proven that. This Malbec has the intensity, structure, complexity and tannins that one would expect from a premium wine. This remarkable example has set the bar for old-vine Malbecs.
Red - Made from old-vines, this red is intense, structured and a remarkable example of the complexity old-vines offer.
Bright ruby colour, with fresh aromatics of ripe black & sour cherries, sweet spice and dry rose petal. Shows a crisp acidity backed with intense ripe fruit notes and firm tannic structure. Medium-bodied with remarkable intensity and a lingering finish.
This wine would be perfect with pork chops, red meat and mushroom lasagna or a lamb stew.
Decomposed granite, the soil profile is quite deep, with clay and granite deposits with pleasant Mediterranean temperatures
The wine was aged in 5.000 litre Austrian foudres for two years.
The grapes are de-stemmed and then gently pressed, undergoing cold maceration for seven days. Alcoholic fermentation is then carried out with native yeast and afterwards, wine is left in contact with the skins for 60 days before being racked into 5,000 litres foudres.
Limávida comes from an old vineyard planted in 1945. It is just 2.3 hectares in size and is mainly planted with Malbec, with a little Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon. Great ageing potential from this organically grown vines.
