Wine De Martino, Alto de Piedras Carmenere Single Vineyard, 2021
This signature variety is used to create this extraordinary wine. Like a true fine wine, this single vineyard Carmenere will only get better with age; developing and extraordinary complexity and maturity.
Characteristics
Wine Style:
Red- A full-bodied, integrated red that has extraordinary complexity and ageability. A great Cabernet alternative.
Tasting Notes:
Using Chile's signature grape variety Carmenere, this wine oozes dark fruits flavours such as plum and dark cherries, while notes of chocolate and cedar evolve in the glass. This is rounded off by earthy notes including leather and smoke. Well structured and excellent food wine with a long elegant finish.
Gastronomy:
Excellent food wine that pairs with aged cheese, cured meats, beef, BBQ's, Asian cuisine and spicy food.
Vineyards:
Alto de Piedras is located 334 meters above sea level with eastern and western exposures in the Maipo Valley consisting of alluvial soil with a high content of rock, clay, silt, and sand, hence the name.
Ageing method:
14 months in large oak foudres.
Winemaking process:
Produced with grapes from an organically farmed vineyard that was planted ungrafted in 1992 on one of the stony alluvial terraces of the Maipo River, which suits the variety and helps to avoid green aromas and flavours in its wines. Destemmed and in terracotta amphorae for 15 days—then kept there for the winter and spring, and bottled unfiltered after malolactic with just a little sulphur.
Interesting notes:
Maipo Valley is one of Chile's most important wine-producing regions. Located just south of the capital, Santiago, Maipo Valley is home to some of the country's most prestigious wines.
