Characteristics
Wine Style:
Red - A unique take on winemaking with this full-bodied red that displays youthfulness after being aged in cement tanks.
Tasting Notes:
Bright ruby with full ripe black fruit nose. On the palate cherry and blackberry jam flavours with notes of cacao and pepper spice. Fine ripe tannins slightly acidic on medium length ending with spicy notes.
Gastronomy:
Ideal to pair with various dishes, from red meats to pasta or grilled vegetables.
Vineyards:
Finca Altos Las Hormigas (Luján de Cuyo) is situated about 800 meters (2624 ft.) above sea level. The radical changes that we introduced in viticulture led us to produce wines that break away from the industrial, highly productive tradition of the area. Here we looked for deep, fresh soils, with low clay content. These are silty loams with high calcium carbonate content. Our Terroir driven viticulture, with small irrigation plots, and natural viticulture aimed at developing a deep and healthy root system allowing us to produce highly drinkable wines, with tension and finesse.
Ageing method:
Aged for 9 months in cement tanks (no wood ageing)
Winemaking process:
Age of vineyard: 25-60 years. Orientation: South/West. The Barbaresco Basarin is produced from the cru of Basarin, in the area of Neive. It is an historical and very prestigious vineyard, its position, on the border between the zone of Neive and Treiso, together with high altitude gives the wines a particular note of spices with a hint of licorice, as well as great complexity and a considerable structure.
