Wine Waterkloof, Syrah, 2020
The first red wine under the Waterkloof label, produced in exceptional years, full, fleshy, layered, and textured with great length.
Characteristics
Wine Style:
Red wine - an elegant northern Rhone-ish style Syrah, supple and plush but built to last. It has a perfumed red berry nose with peppery, smoky notes
Tasting Notes:
Complex and aromatic with white pepper, herbs, red berries and hint of savory black berry notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and hints of vanilla and oak, long finish with firm tannins and good acidity
Gastronomy:
An excellent option to pair with lamb, beef, pork and cheese
Vineyards:
Single block vineyard on The Schapenberg with the size of 1.4hectares, yield 2tons/hectare
Ageing method:
24 months in old 600l French oak barrels
Winemaking process:
The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted to remove any unwanted material. The grapes are then fermented with their juice using wild yeast in an old open-top French oak fermenter. The wine goes through malolactic conversion and is bottled or blended with another wine.
