Gabriëlskloof
Botriver, South Africa
"Our vision is to produce wine that best reflects the complexity, richness, and diversity of our unique terroir."
Gabriëlskloof winery is located on a hilltop mere minutes away from Botrivier with sweeping views of the Babylonstoren mountains. This ambitious winery which had its first vintage in 2008 and with a few years of hard work, trials, errors, and persistence got the recognition from wine critics, fellow winemakers, and wine lovers from around the world.
It all started with Kobie Viljoen as the winemaker who until 2014 put the winemaking in place at the estate. In 2014 Peter-Allan Finlayson, who is widely acclaimed and recognized for his exploits with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties on South African soil, took over the reins as winemaker. Following a series of releases of terroir wines from old bush vineyards, Gabriëlskloof caught the attention of international critics and seasoned wine lovers. We are happy to have several of these in our portfolio.
Peter-Allan continues to explore and exploit the unique terroir Gabriëlskloof offers and we can only expect to see great things from this gem in the heart of the Overberg. His exploits paid off with "The Landscape Series Elodie" and "The Landscape Series Syrah on Sandstone" scoring exceptionally high with critics from around the world.
Tim Atkin - British Master of Wine and award-winning wine journalist- classified the estate according to the Bordeaux classification principles as a 3rd growth, which is impressive on all accounts.
