Wine Richmond Plains, Reserve Pinot Noir, 2015
The complexity of this Pinot Noir is proof of how diverse and intense this variety can be. While still elegant, this wine offers a range of spicy, earthy and savory notes. This wine, which has been hand-crafted, is also one of the first organically certified Pinot Noirs from New Zealand.
Characteristics
Wine Style:
Red - This Pinot Noir is made in an elegant, appealing style which can be enjoyed when young but will also benefit from some cellaring.
Tasting Notes:
Fragrant floral red cherry, strawberry and raspberry notes. A complex nose with earthy savoury and spicy characters. Delicious sweet cherry and berry fruit flavours with some earthy forest floor and spicy notes. French oak gives a subtle structure to this fruity Pinot Noir with a lovely lingering finish.
Gastronomy:
Enjoy with salmon, roast poultry or red meats.
Winemaking process:
Grapes bunches were thinned and hand-harvested to maximise flavours and fruit quality. The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed and transferred to open fermenters. After a period of cold maceration for 4 days, the juice was inoculated for fermentation. Regular hand plunging up to 19 days was carried out in the winery. The fermenting juice was then transferred into French oak barrels (10% new) for maturation and to wait for secondary fermentation in the spring before bottling in the new year.
Interesting notes:
Richmond Plains produced New Zealand's first certified organic Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
