Wine Richmond Plains, Reserve Pinot Noir, 2015
Complex and engaging, the fragrant bouquet shows dark berry, smoked wood, olive and truffle aromas, followed by a beautifully weighted palate that is succulent and supple. The wine delivers lovely fruit richness as well as savoury/meaty complexity, finishing persistent and silky.
This Pinot Noir is made in an elegant appealing style which can be enjoyed when young but will also benefit from a little cellaring allowing it to develop more complex characters.
Fragrant floral red cherry, strawberry and raspberry notes. A complex nose with earthy savoury and spicy characters. Delicious sweet cherry and berry fruit flavours with some earthy forest floor and spicy notes. French oak gives a subtle structure to this fruity Pinot Noir with a lovely lingering finish.
Enjoy with salmon, roast poultry or red meats.
Grapes bunches were thinned and hand-harvested to maximise flavours and fruit quality. The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed and transferred to open fermenters. After a period of cold maceration for 4 days, the juice was inoculated for fermentation. Regular hand plunging up to 19 days was carried out in the winery. The fermenting juice was then transferred into French oak barrels (10% new) for maturation and to wait for secondary fermentation in the spring before bottling in the new year.
Richmond Plains produced New Zealand's first certified organic Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
