Tasting Notes:

The strong mineralic and spicy smell is typical for colored sandstone. In addition it also brings elegant citrus notes in the nose. A complex and elegant wine which is, through our consequent and uncompromising style of wine-making, a wine with a huge aging potential.

Vineyards:

“Ganzhorn im Sonnenschein” is colorful sandstone, south facing vineyard site. Biodynamically farmed from 2006. The location "GANZ HORN" IN THE SUNSHINE, always shows itself as the most purist of winery's vineyard. The typical layer salty-mineral notes remind one of the pebbles of the slope gravel floor, which gives a fine scent followed by white peach and ripe citrus. The vineyards are 160 to 225 m above sea level and have 5 to 20% slope. The plot, which is called "Siebeldinger Ganzhorn" was already known for its top Rieslings before the wine law amendment in 1971, 2.5 hectares are considered VDP. Grosse Gewachs (Grand Cru equivalent) in which 2.1 hectares are the source of the grapes for this wine.

Ageing method:

5-6 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks.

Winemaking process:

After selective hand-picking on 30 October 2019 in several harvesting rounds, the grapes were destemmed. On the 24-hourly mashing time is followed by gentle pressing and pre-clarification by natural sedimentation of the Mosttrubes. The must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks. After 5 months of storage on the lees followed in March 2020 by racking (process of moving wine from one vessel to another using gravity with the purpose of removing the sediment and lees.) and in June 2020 the wine was bottled.

Interesting notes:

soil, consists of sand and sandstone of the colorful sandstone of Pfälzer Wald, Loam and gravel. It is a perfect soil for Riesling.
