Wine Selbach Oster, Trutta Fario Riesling Kabinett, 2017
Wine Advocates Pierre Rovani noted that "this estate’s winemaker and the director is on fire." And it is most evident in this typical, but explosive off-dry Riesling. While still elegant, this wine is vibrant and intense and worth cellaring for a few years to further develop.
Characteristics
Wine Style:
White - This Riesling is light and well balanced while offering explosive tropical fruit aromas and vibrant acidity.
Tasting Notes:
Bright golden-yellow colour with aromas dominated by white fruit, citrus and minerals. On the palate, the wine is lush and elegant with fruity flavours and a long, refreshing mineral finish.
Gastronomy:
This wine is perfect to be enjoyed as an aperitif or paired with white meat dishes and delicious with seafood. Try it with a spicy curry dish and be surprised how well it compliments the meal!
Winemaking process:
Spontaneous fermentation, mostly in stainless steel but there are some large old Mosel fuders used as well.
Interesting notes:
“Johannes Selbach, this estate’s winemaker and the director is on fire. His wines are top-flight and yet his winemaking appears to be improving with each vintage. Readers should note that Selbach’s wines typically appear substantially better after a few years of cellaring.” – Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate
