Wine Richmond Plains, Blue Moon Sauvignon Blanc, 2016

949 000

A delicious and elegant wine. Grapes were whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barrels for this complex rendition of the variety. Lifted aromas of grapefruit, dried herb, lime zest and vanilla lead to a beautifully weighted palate that is finely textured and brightly flavoured. Malolactic fermentation created a beautiful creamy texture with distinctive sea air notes. The wine offers lively fruit notes together with subtle oak infusion, making it engaging and highly enjoyable.

Tasting Notes:

Fresh herbaceous characters with gooseberry and capsicum notes. Delicious gooseberry, capsicum, passionfruit and lime/citrus flavours with a lovely background of mineral and nettle tones. Fresh, fruity & vibrant with good weight and length. A very versatile and popular wine that complements a wide variety of food styles especially seafood and ideal as an aperitif.

Gastronomy:

Because of vibrant acidity, the wine easily pairs with a variety of fish dishes, seafood appetizers, vinaigrette salads, chicken and many other foods.

Vineyards:

Sauvignon Blanc is ideally suited to the Nelson region where a combination of warm, sunny days and cool autumn nights, help to create the intense varietal flavours for which this flagship New Zealand wine is recognised.

Ageing method:

Barrel ageing.

Winemaking process:

The old vines are on Scott Henry trellising whilst the new vines were trellised on vertical shoot position. Fruit was picked from the 31st of March, crushed and de-stemmed before being cool fermented to preserve the vibrant, fresh Sauvignon characters.

Interesting notes:

Youthfully charming and beautifully fragrant, the bouquet shows green rockmelon, lemon/lime peel, apple and herbaceous characters. The palate is juicy and finely textured, displaying lovely fruit intensity and vibrancy, backed by crisp acidity - 4½ Stars - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2019
